Political Views: I do not think “National Socialism” means what der Führer thinks it means, so I am not a Party member. Nevertheless, I work in support of the Wehrmacht; my son is a member of the Hitlerjugend (as are all of his school chums); and my husband is currently serving in the Luftwaffe – so I do not think anyone can tell me with any authority that my family is not contributing enough to the Reich.
Feelings about the War: Honestly, it seems sometimes as if all I have ever known is war. I was a newly-capped nurse when The Great War began; I began stitching up injured Soldaten then and haven’t really stopped since. In the beginning it was a great adventure, but now that I am older and, I hope, wiser, it just seems a
terrible waste. So many of our young men lie dead and dying – who will be left to rebuild Germany when this war finally ends?
